Raquel Marques
San Diego
Raquel Marques
Hello, I’m Raquel. I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, the second largest city in Brazil, famed for its Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, Sugarloaf Mountain, and the Carnaval festival. I've always embraced different cultures and experiences so I moved to the U.S. to attend college in Massachusetts and decided to stay. Today I call San Diego my home. I love the weather, the slow-setting winter sun, and Comic-Con. However, I never forget where I come from. I’ve always had a passion for fashion and design. Growing up, I watched my grandmother and mother create beautiful clothes from hand-picked fabrics. I am not an artist or designer but I can confidently say that I am able to take my knowledge of fashion, design and current trends and interpret this knowledge into different styles. I am very proud to be an Ambassador of Virgil James, for what it represents, and for the products. Don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me an email if you’re interested in learning more about our products.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN NOT WORKING?

I love to exercise, try different restaurants and travel. My next trip is to San Francisco.

WHAT BRINGS YOU THE GREATEST JOY?

My family.

WHAT ARE THE LAST THREE ITEMS ON YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENT?

A drop-in charge for a spinning class. I love changing my workout routine. I also bought a Rebecca Taylor skirt and Japanese spices. Since I came back from Japan last month, I’ve been obsessed by Japanese cuisine.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR 16 YEAR OLD SELF?

Listen to your parents a bit more.

WHAT IS A FASHION RULE THAT YOU COMPLETELY DISAGREE WITH?

Wear something for one season then retire it. Just because something is seasonal it does not mean you can’t wear it.

WHAT IS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?

Write a book. It was a promise I made to my composition teacher back in college. In the last day of class, she pulled me aside and told me how impressed she was with my writing style. She made me promise that day that I would write a book someday.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK?

My favorite book is The Little Prince. I remember reading it first at age eleven. I’ve read it a few times since then, and the book still captivates me the same way. Its simple lessons have lasted throughout my life thus far.

WHAT SHOULD EVERY WOMAN TRY AT LEAST ONCE IN HER LIFE?

 Live by herself.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?

My personal style depends on how I feel. Sometimes trendy, sometimes preppy. Lately, feminine, soft and romantic.

WHAT SOUNDS DO YOU LOVE?

I love the sound of the violin. It touches my soul. I also love the sounds of crickets on a summer night. It brings back childhood memories.

I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO VISIT...

Monte Carlo. It exudes chic and it is beautiful. Monte Carlo is on the Riviera, close to Nice and Cannes. It hosts a famous Casino and the Grand Prix. I love Formula 1. Attending the Grand Prix of Monte Carlo is definitely on my bucket list.

WHEN I WANT TO RELAX...

I listen to classical music or meditation music. Music has a profound effect on me. I also light up candles, usually sweet scents. If it is later in the day, I might just have a glass of red wine and watch the sunset from the porch.

I AM MOST CREATIVE WHEN...

I am running. I always have the best ideas during my run.  I think it is the combination of the music, the sunset and knowing that I am improving my health.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST PET PEEVE?

My biggest pet peeve is people driving slow, especially if they own a sports car.

IN EVERY DESTINATION I MAKE SURE TO VISIT...

Coffee shops. Coffee shops are very authentic. They represent the local culture and local people. Of course, I love coffee too so I must try different coffee shops every destination I go.

I COLLECT...

I collect fridge magnets from all the places I travel to. I also collect iconic shoes that are usually inspired by architecture. My favorite shoe is the classic United Nude Eamz pump.

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC/SONG/BAND.

Hard to say. There are so many beautiful songs. The Cranberries were my favorite band during my teen years.  "Linger" is still on my playlist to this day.

WOULD YOU CHOSSE A HOLIDAY AT THE BEACH OR IN THE MOUNTAINS?

Definitely the mountains. They remind me that I am part of something much bigger than myself, which produces a sense of freedom and appreciation. My favorite mountains are in Colorado.

ARTIST I MOST ADMIRE IS...

I really admire Peter Lik for his landscape photography.

NEVER BE AFRAID OF...

Doing what you want. You can always achieve what you want by believing in yourself and setting goals. A lot of times, people do not know what they want, or, try to achieve what people expect from them.
